Sunshine for Sick Days and Snow Days

Goodness, y’all. This week has been filled with curveballs, sick days, and snow days! It started off in the most wonderful way with the Patriots winning the Super Bowl (yay!) and a great day on Monday. Then on Monday night I suddenly came down with what I think was the flu. I took sick days yesterday and Tuesday, and am now doing much better! Food still lacks its usual appeal, but I think that should pass by the weekend. Now that I am feeling better and mostly ready to return to routine, we are in the thick of a snowstorm in New Hampshire! At last report, I heard 10-16″ in today’s forecast. Snow is beautiful, but being homebound and not being able to see Dillon is not my preference! To bring a little warmth and sunshine into this week, I am sharing some cheerful snippets with y’all today.

1. Lilly Pulitzer + S’well Bottles are coming to Starbucks! And they are gorgeous. I saw Emily Ley mention these on Instagram stories this morning and quickly took to the internet to learn more. I didn’t see any official information announced about this product, but there were a few postings on Instagram, including this one where I found the photo shared above. I have had my eye on a S’well bottle for a while now and would really like to pick one up if I find one at my local Starbucks in the upcoming days. Lilly collaboration products tend to go quickly even here in NH though, so we shall see!

2. I recently discovered the Instagram account of Ashley Brooke and it’s filled with so much color and cheer! I really appreciate her style and the way she seems to make every day occasions extra fun!

Friday No. 7

1. While I don’t regularly follow football, the Patriots are in the Super Bowl this weekend, which is really exciting here in NH!  This picture of Martellus Bennett dancing after the AFC championship last Sunday is my favorite (source – view the clip here). There is a buzz in the air among New Englanders, with Super Bowl party prep in full swing. My work is having a ‘wear your Patriots gear’ to work day today so I’m wearing a cute new navy tunic from Kohl’s with gray leggings. Go Patriots!

2. I made some fresh fruit salsa and cinnamon chips for a work party yesterday and they were such a hit! I had planned to make the salsa ahead of time and purchase some Stacey’s cinnamon pita chips to pair with it, but the grocery store was out so I made my own. When I was on my way out for the night, I realized that one of my coworkers had come by my desk while I was on a call and taken the chips to his desk to snack on with other people from the floor, and people were asking for the recipe – surely a crowd pleaser! The recipe for both can be found here (I swapped the kiwis for a mango and used strawberry preserves).

3. On a recent Saturday morning, I treated myself by going out for breakfast at one of my favorite local cafes. I brought my laptop and notebook and ended up getting some blog posts written and made a shopping list for the week ahead, which helped me feel prepared and rested for the remainder of the weekend. It was such a treat to enjoy a scrumptious sandwich, enjoy quiet time, and do some weekly prep at the start of the weekend. I highly recommend carving out time for such things!

4. Dillon and I have been taking care to balance the weeks we go out for date night and those in which we stay in. It helps us get creative with new meal ideas and honor our budget at the same time. For one of our ‘staying in for dinner’ dates, we enjoyed taco salad with his family and then went out afterward for an evening drive to talk and enjoy quality time, just us. We ended up making an impromptu trip to a local diner and split a milkshake, and we left a 100% tip which was SO fun. It’s such a joy to bless others, and we had such a great time doing something so simple and inexpensive. Shown above, we were trying to put straws together to make one long one. We are five years old sometimes and I love it!

5. A couple weeks into January, Dillon and I spotted Christmas lights during our date night. While many people do not approve of Christmas décor after New Years, I asked Dillon to pull over so we could take a moment to savor the remaining twinkly lights. White string lights are my favorite and I plan to string them around my workspace to add warmth and cheer once I can pick up a new strand from Target!

February 2017 Goals

Happy February, friends! January was filled with the building of new routines and healthy habits to start the year off well. Last month taught me the positive impact of drinking enough water, consistently taking my vitamins, eating more greens, stretching, and simply being mindful of what my body needs each day. I also quickly learned the value of making the most of my free time, as my schedule was suddenly much more full than I’ve been accustomed to.

On Sunday morning, I lit a candle, poured myself a warm cup of coffee (with cinnamon added into the brew process – yum!) and worked on my PowerSheets for the month ahead. It was such a joy to read through all the big picture goals I set for 2017 and break them down into manageable pieces to work through, little by little. Before I share my new goals for February, let’s review last month’s goals.

January Goals in Review:

– read Mark and Proverbs
– send thank you notes for early wedding gifts we’ve received
– grocery shop for healthy food by Sunday each week
– buy a programmable coffee maker
– listen to podcasts or scripture on audio during my morning commute
– write a budget for February
– choose a scripture to memorize
– implement my daily healthy habits (more on that in an upcoming post)
– read The Compound Effect
– publish my first wedding planning post (YAY!)
– read How to Win Friends and Influence People

I’m really happy with how January turned out. I’m proud of myself for sticking to most of my goals and learning what I am capable of accomplishing in a month’s time!
