I’m excited to share another update on our wedding planning journey with y’all! We are nearing the halfway point of our engagement and things are definitely beginning to seem very real – which is really exciting!
It’s been a huge priority to me from the start to not become consumed or stressed about wedding planning, and I’m pleased to say that things have been relaxed and lovely. So many people have said that the process of planning a wedding and preparing for marriage can be incredibly stressful. I understand that there is surely a lot that goes into this time, but we only get to be engaged once!
In order to savor this sweet, sweet season we have been careful to not let that be our story. My thought from the start has been that if something is stressful and becoming a burden on us with planning, we cut it or delegate. Applying this principle and taking wedding planning in small pieces has helped us to stay relaxed about it all, as well as continue to enjoy our relationship with wedding things aside.
From the start of wedding planning, the most major decisions for us have been making the investment in fine art photography and – for me – choosing a dress that fit my vision without exceeding my budget. Thankfully, our photographer is a dream (hi, Ruthie!) and my gown is everything I’d hoped for.
Since my last update we’ve:
— mailed our save the dates
— visited Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma to inspire our registries
— begun wedding dress shopping and I bought my dress!
— designated maid/matrons of honor and best men
— begun narrowing down ceremony venues
— reached out to a few local florists for estimates
— inquired with two calligraphers about two projects
— picked what we are pretty sure will be our first dance song
— finished about 75% of our wedding registries
— narrowed our bridesmaid and groomsmen attire down and are close to finalizing our choices
Our next action steps are:
— look at possible bridal accessories
— decide on and reserve/purchase Dillon’s attire
— finalize tablescape plan
— determine menu and discuss with caterer
— finalize wedding inspiration board and distribute to those who are helping us plan
— confirm ceremony venue
— decide on final bridesmaid and groomsmen attire
— talk with one of my bridesmaids about logistics and cost of doing our own florals
— discuss rain contingency plan
— design stationery suite
— finish wedding registries
Do not be alarmed that we don’t have a ceremony venue yet! Y’all. You’d be surprised at how many churches in the area are adorable on the outside but don’t have a center aisle for me to walk down. After envisioning that moment of walking towards my groom since I was a little girl, you best believe there will be a center aisle at the venue we choose.
Planning beyond marriage, we have also had our first apartment visit and are pretty sure we’ve found the place we’ll move into after our wedding. I’m also excited that we’ve made major progress in way of our registries and will be finished with those very soon. I hope y’all are having a great day!
