Reflecting on our day, our wedding ceremony was the most sacred, worshipful, and thoughtfully-planned part of our day – for good reason! This was the very part where we promised to forever love and build each other up into the people God created us to be. Everyone gathered in the same place, wholly focused on why we were there – such a gift! I’m thankful for every moment of our ceremony, and am excited to share the details of it with you today!
Early in our engagement, Dillon and I decided we wanted to include a first look in our wedding day. From working in the wedding industry, I learned that first looks are great for helping the day feel unhurried. Everyone told me that the day flies by – which I definitely did not want. I purposed to fill our day with moments of slowing down, being present, and savoring the joy around us. Our first look was a great way we made sure to do this!
We planned 30 minutes from the moment I put on our dress until we began bridal party portraits. This allowed for us to share a few moments of private prayer and togetherness after the first look itself. I put complete trust into our photographer to choose the location, allowing her to pick a spot with great lighting. When the time came for us to have our first look, Ruthie first led Dillon to the location and then a couple of my bridesmaids led me there.
I remember feeling all kinds of excited as I saw him standing there, facing away from me of course! I am personally not a fan of the ‘tapping on the shoulder’ part of a first look, so I think I greeted him and he then turned around. He handed me two letters he had written to me, which I saved for reading later. We just held each other for a moment and soaked up our joy, and then Dillon prayed to offer the day up to the Lord. It was so sweet to share those private moments together before the bustle of the day picked up. I will be sharing our ceremony soon, but read about our wedding planning journey here in the meantime!
