Being Still (and a Printable Desk Card)

Good Morning Friends and Happy Monday!
Over the past couple of days, I enjoyed my first analog weekend: an intentional vacation from social media. Lately I have been working to quiet the mental chatter that seems to occupy my brain during every waking hour. This weekend really helped with that. Along with seeking clarity, I have also been resting in God and learning to be still (Psalm 37:7). As I am beginning to pursue surgery for my back, I have found it to be incredibly heart-healing and life-giving to wait on the Lord instead of try to frantically figure everything out on my own. The first half of Psalm 37:7 has become one of my favorite pieces of scripture lately:

  • Be still in the presence of the Lord , and wait patiently for him to act. (NLT)
  • Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; (NIV, ESV)
  • Rest in the Lord , and wait patiently for Him; (NKJV)
  • Quiet down before God , be prayerful before him. (MSG)

When I find a scripture that I really want to cling to, I cross-reference it in other versions and soak up the different words used. It can be especially helpful to find an accompanying piece of scripture that relates to a similar truth, too. My Bible, a Life Application Study Bible, cross-referenced a few supporting verses. I searched for them and explored different translations to share my favorites with you.

  • Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. Psalm 62:5, NLT
  • God  proves to be good to the man who passionately waits, to the woman who diligently seeks. It’s a good thing to quietly hope, quietly hope for help from God. Taken from Lamentations 3:25-27, MSG
  • I waited patiently for the Lord  to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord .. Psalm 40:1-3, NLT

Another piece of scripture that speaks to this truth was shared as the weekly truth on She Reads Truth yesterday.

As we collectively rest in these truths this week, we can rejoice in the fact that God is willing and able to carry us through whatever trials and storms that we may be facing. I put together a new print in my shop that was inspired through my recent time spent in this scripture.

I also put together a freebie for y’all to enjoy. I encourage you to print one for yourself and one for a friend. Place it in a spot where you spend a lot of time each day as a reminder that God is carrying you and that He has it all figured out, all you need to do is be still and wait.

Just right-click, save, print, and enjoy! Have a wonderful day sweet friends.
